Practical and Thought-provoking Book

Jean-Francois Desrosby has written a practical and thought-provoking book that is essential for performers, teachers, and students. In a concise 100 pages Dr. Desrosby guides guitarists through body and mind to ensure a healthy and successful experience as a musician. Highly recommended and not to be ignored! As the author states: "My work involved the application of principles taken from biomechanics and sports psychology to the practice of the guitar in order to maximize technique and performance under stress. Current applications related to the research on biomechanics are mainly limited to the healing of injuries caused by misuse of the body during the practice of an instrument, while the psychological side is often the least of our worries as musicians. (pg 7)." To my knowledge there is no other book that examines music and the guitar in this way. Therefore, this book fills an important gap in the underdeveloped world of guitar pedagogy.

This book, although it is concise (100 pages), seems to be a kind of missing link in teaching guitar pedagogy. By analyzing the instrumental performance from a scientific point of view, the author brings interesting and simple solutions to problems that can limit us. Moreover, the author seems, despite his young age, to be an accomplished guitarist with an efficient and compact technique. The only negative point is that we would like some more stuff, but I feel that as this book subtitled introduction to biomechanics and performance psychology, the author writes a suite. I hope, and I will buy ...
