Strong anecdotal history from a lifelong fan.

Not an exhaustive history, but rather a light, highly anecdotal history of the quakes. Knowing that Gary is a career columnist, it makes sense that the book reads like a series of essays, and that's not a bad thing. I think he succeeds in establishing the pervasive theme of underdogs from an underdog city who never say die. The book is a nice pickup for both longtime fans as well as new arrivals brought in by the opening of Avaya Stadium. I only wish it had been longer!

Interesting read about the history of the Quakes, was a season ticket holder and attendee from first season through the final, and was interesting to read about the behind the scenes activities leading up to the first season, also was very surprised read about the Blackhawks, never knew that were as good and proficient as they were..... good read

I started following the Earthquakes a few years ago. I wasn't born in 1974. I wasn't even born in 1984, but reading Gary Singh's history of San Jose, the Earthquakes, and Bay Area soccer made me truly believe that I was helping carrying a legacy over forty years old. It is a quick read, but filled with so many details about every era of San Jose soccer that made me truly appreciate my opportunity to cheer for them every game in their, and truly their, stadium.

Go Quakes and beat L.A.!

Oh my! I loved, loved, loved this book! This is my first experience reading V Kelly but I can guarantee, it won't be my last! This is hands down, the most delightfully entertaining book I've read this year and that's saying a lot since I read a ton of books! Innuendos is a fast paced, well crafted, fun-filled, standalone full-length romantic comedy filled to the brim with outrageous humor, snappy dialogue, heartbreaking angst and heartwarming romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly defined alternating his and her points of view. The dialogue is smart, witty, contemporary, well executed and flows effortlessly. But the piece de resistance is the magnificent well developed cast of characters who grabbed my undivided attention right out of the gate and completely captured my heart! I fell head over heels in love with the two protagonists of this story, handsome personal trainer Maxwell 'Max' James McGowan and beautiful law office clerk Breeanne 'Breezy' Nicole Hicks. They were engaging, sexy, laugh-out-loud funny and their sexual chemistry was off the charts, smokin' hot. They were absolutely magnificent! Once I started reading, I simply could not stop. I laughed with them, cried with them, empathized with them, screamed at them and even cheered for them. Several times my heart stuttered and almost stopped, and all the while the pages as well as the time flew with hours passing seemingly as minutes until I reached the very last line. And I loved every single second! What did I love about this story? Everything! What didn't I like? Not a darn thing! Would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language and some dreamy love scenes. Will I read this author again? Absolutely!

Breezy and Max have been best friends for ten years and roommates for the last four. What girl wouldn't love living with a hot, handsome guy, right? Breezy loves sharing her life and her home with Max; truly, she does. There's just one little problem - and it's six feet of well packaged muscle! Every single guy she dates, cuts bait and runs for the hills once they meet her hunky roommate! Well, maybe there's actually two little problems; the second one being that said handsome roommate is a total player! But they've stood by each other through thick and thin, always caring more for each other than either ever wanted to admit. When one crazy bet gets totally out of hand, they soon come to realize they're both more than a just little attracted to each other. Their barrage of sexual innuendos leads to an explosive encounter, which not only rocks both their worlds, but also leads them to the realization that their relationship as well as their lives have changed forever. Will one night ruin the thing they value most? Or will Max and Breezy discover their friendship has grown into the kind of love they each have unknowingly desired? We'll see! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Judging a Book by it's Cover:
Corny, cheesy, kinda campy... sets the tone for the book. Synopsis hints at a book filled with laugh out loud moments.

Looking Deeper:
Alternating first-person POVs, clearly defined. Max and Breezy have been best friends for ten years, living together for the last three. While Max acts as the man-whore to cover up his growing love for Breezy, she can't seem to keep a boyfriend once they've met "the chiseled Adonis with an eight-pack". The result of Breezy's latest boyfriend dumping her? A drunken bet: No sex or even mentioning the word. Let the games begin!
The lead characters are a little immature, mostly in a good natured, silly way. Their chemistry is fun and flirtatious. There are enough secondary characters to be a supportive filler without overwhelming the primary couple or story. I did notice the word "sex" WAS used at the end of the seventeenth chapter (approx. 54%) by Breezy, but neither of them seemed to realize it.... with the stakes as they were, Max SHOULD HAVE honed in on that immediately. Max slips at Breezy's birthday and says the no-no word between presents and cake, but no one seems to catch that either. Other than that, the dialogue and interaction was light and enjoyable. To that point. Thereafter, there are moments of passion, heartbreak, and seriousness. There are conflicts, this is not all sunshine and roses. Predictability is rather low. The conclusion is solid and satisfying, the Epilogue ties things up nicely. If I'd not had to set this book aside to meet a blog obligation, I probably would have read this in one sitting. The writing was just too smooth and the character chemistry was too enjoyable to want to put down for any length of time. I'm so very happy that I bought this book and took the time to enjoy a "just for me" book, it did NOT disappoint.

Mad Props... Great read!!!

I swear to all that is holy V Kelly's way with words, leaving me in severe pain. And it's not from the hubs No, it's from laughing so hard. My nose hurts from snorting so much, my ribs feel like I've broken a few, my stomach is tender to the touch, and my poor, poor lady parts (Again, not from the hubs) NO, sadly that came when my pelvic bone popped from hysterical laughter from a dressing room scene that I read through a clouded vision of laughing tears. I seriously give V Kelly mad props, her sense of humor reminds me of my family and I so much. I ripped though this book like it was it was crack and I needed my fix. There was not one character I didn't like (well except Georgette, but she's an evil hooch and you're not suppose to) This book really got me, not just hysterically, I fell in love with the feel of empowering those that feel less of themselves. I have a no f rule as well in my house as well as the S word. I hate any type of shaming or judging. A person is beautiful regardless of appearance. I have engrained it in my children that appearance will never tell you what makes a person special. Everyone is unique, and deserve a chance at love, friends, and happiness. Thank you to V Kelly for putting this in this book!

Breeanne, also know as Bree or as Max calls her Breezy, has been best friends with her roommate, Max for ten years. They met in high school, went to college together, and moved in as roommates and now have lived together for 3 years. Breeanne has not always been the confident gorgeous spitfire you see today. No, Max built her up, made her see how bright she shines, and treats his best friend like the queen she is. Yes, you heard right, HIS! And that's where all the problems lie. Every guy Bree dates dump her when they met her sexy beast of a roommate/ best friend. After, her latest break up and a drunken fight between the two, they make a bet. Bree bets Max that she can go without sex longer and without speaking the words longer than Max. If Bree wins she gets a puppy; if Max wins he gets to kiss her for 30 mins. Both determined to win, they play a vast game of using innuendos in hopes the other will break.

Bree is so much fun! Sadly, most things go over her head and I'm sitting here laughing so hard because no, she's not the brightest crayon in the box. Bless her heart, we love her anyways.

Max is such an awesome guy (I think I need to fan myself a little, give me a minute) He treats every woman like she is special. I feel if I go to deep into him I might spill more beans then I should.

My favorite character had to be Maggie though. I love her like no other. Who knew she was such a wildcat! I was expecting a timid self conscious woman. Heck No! We got us a hilarious firecracker. I can't wait for her book.

This has become one of my favorites. Now I'm off to devour an Accent Hussy, YAY!

This book may contain some useful information but it is so poorly structured it's extremely tedious if not nearly impossible to dig it out. It is organized alphabetically by author rather than topic. There are cross indexes at the back of the book but they fail to give page numbers. Definitely recommend against purchasing.

Even though this book sounded promising, it was in the end very disappointing. There are a few problems. Firstly, the references are organized poorly, I would like to have seen listings under for example 'piano technique', 'interpretation', 'biographies','piano history', etc. Instead it is just one very long alphabetical list with some limited cross-references at the end that are not practical to use. Secondly, a lot of references are to quite obscure. Finally, there is no advice at all, it is purely a listing, and thus no value is added by the author. I think the idea of the book is excellent, but it needs revamping!

About the Author
John Milton, English scholar and classical poet, is one of the major figures of Western literature. He was born in 1608 into a prosperous London family. By the age of 17, he was proficient in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. Milton attended Cambridge University, earning a B.A. and an M.A. before secluding himself for five years to read, write and study on his own. It is believed that Milton read evertything that had been published in Latin, Greek, and English. He was considered one of the most educated men of his time. Milton also had a reputation as a radical. After his own wife left him early in their marriage, Milton published an unpopular treatise supporting divorce in the case of incompatibility. Milton was also a vocal supporter of Oliver Cromwell and worked for him. Milton's first work, Lycidas, an elegy on the death of a classmate, was published in 1632, and he had numerous works published in the ensuing years, including Pastoral and Areopagitica. His Christian epic poem, Paradise Lost, which traced humanity's fall from divine grace, appeared in 1667, assuring his place as one of the finest non-dramatic poet of the Renaissance Age. Milton went blind at the age of 43 from the incredible strain he placed on his eyes. Amazingly, Paradise Lost and his other major works, Paradise Regained and Samson Agonistes, were composed after the lost of his sight. These major works were painstakingly and slowly dictated to secretaries. John Milton died in 1674.

Some value, within a lot of poor content

The reason I bought this Max Notes is the same for my (probable) frequent mispelling in the text that follows: I'm not a native English speaker. I wanted to know Milton's work, without having to fight my way through a poetry that's difficult even to well educated, native English speakers. I suspected that the difficulties of the style would hinder my appreciation of the work (which I still think would be the case).
This is a good summary of Milton's work: engaging, informed and synthetic, at the same time. Each "book" (actualy chapters) of Paradise Lost is presented separately, in five sections: the new characters (who make their debut in that chapter; a good idea), the summary of the chapter/book, an analysis of the chapter, study questions along with their answers, and suggested essay topics.
Two things, though, compromise the quality of the book.
First, the quality of the "analysis" of each chapter is very, very poor. Most of the time it basicaly re-summarizes the text, in the very same way a laisy student -- who's unwilling to stop and think -- does in an test. This, plus the fact that the study questions and answers are also very superficial and poor, give the impression that the book is specifically geared toward less-than-bright students. Is this the case? We might think so, once this is the general pre-conceivement about "notes" and "summaries" of great classics. But I really guess it didn't have to be this way.
The second weakness in this Max Noter is the horrendous, despisable, quality of its illustrations. Once again, we can't help but think that they were "commissioned" to resemble the drawings teenagers usually make in their notebooks. Then again, what's the use of that? Do teenager readers find the book "cooler" because of these cheesy, ridiculous illustrations. I seriously doubt.
All in all this is not a complete waste of time and money, but I do get the sensation that there might be a better summary among the many other similar series available.

Great addition to any libarary

Mr Lawson's book was beautifully written and shows the reader just how we can go about studying God's word.
This book was used in my Bible School Class in which we had to summerize the book and what we thought and felt. I must say that by doing so received an "A".
Take your time when going through the book. I am sure that you will keep referring back to it every now-and-again.
