Scorching-hot sex in a well-developed setting; what more could you ask for?

The author has clearly put as much time and effort into the world background and setting as she has the steamy-hot sex scenes (that is to say, a LOT!). Each is used to further help develop the other, and the two main plots (the development of the main character's powers and the war that threatens to destroy everything) are neatly tied together in a way that holds a lot of promise for future development (without getting bogged down in endless, pointless court intrigue). I'll be picking up the sequel shortly, and am very interested in seeing where it leads.

A deliciously decadent treat...

Due to the sensitive nature of the book’s theme, i.e. a slave girl being trained to be the perfect sexual servant, the storyline for “Slave to the Empire” could easily have gotten very uncomfortable, very fast. Thankfully, it instead plays out deliciously well by taking Elara’s role as a sexual slave to the dominating humans around her and turning it into a form of empowerment. Thanks to her secret magical training, she is not only able to garner great satisfaction from the numerous sexual acts she engages in but she is also able to use her special skills to secretly bend each of her partners to her will, even as she maintains a façade of meek subservience.

“Slave to the Empire” is a deliciously decadent treat for fans who have always felt that their high fantasy adventures could do with a bit more steamy eroticism. The sex scenes are hot, enticingly detailed, extremely arousing; all of which makes for highly enjoyable read with plenty of potential storylines to look forward to in future volumes. Add in a lot of detailed world building with the wide variety of character types and this novella could easily have been just a straight fantasy novel, but thanks to the author’s unique vision, it is the perfect blend of both genres in one delightfully naughty little package.

Disappointed - good premise but NOT complete

This is a short work that is a start to a good concept and while I would like to know what happens with the story and characters, $2.99 for 79 pages is just outrageous. These serial releases are awful and I am disappointed that Amazon doesn't track this more.
Publish the work in its entirety. It is NOT a BOOK otherwise!!

Mystery. Drama. Intrigue... This is one novel you won't be able to stop reading!

Skilled author Karen D. Scioscia... who is also a highly regarded freelance writer and executive speech writer... has written a gripping and riveting book that is inspired by a true story. As she mentions in the author's notes, this novel is "loosely based on my recollection, notes, photos, and interviews with various people and agencies involved during the time of the abduction of a family member".

She's been there. She knows. And her attention to detail... the vivid pictures she paints of each scene and location... is what sets this novel apart from the rest. She is throughly experienced with her subject matter, and the intricacies and nuances of each character being portrayed come vividly to life within its pages.

This is a very gripping and moving story that totally draws you into the storyline, for it's totally believable. Something that could happen to anyone of us, or any member of your family. That reality, and the realism of what transpires when a beautiful young American woman was kidnapped and confined against her will in Tijuana, will keep you both in suspense and transfixed. This young woman was drugged. She was tortured. She endured sexual assult. Every waking minute, she lived in constant fear for her life. And you'll be with her, every step of the way, through her terrifying journey. The U.S. State Dept. has warned repeatedly against non-essential travel along the U.S. / Mexican border, expecially in the vioent cities of Ciudad Juarez and Tijuana. This book gives a graphic taste of what goes on behind the fence.

Karen D. Scioscia has an excellent way with words, and is an amazingly talented writer. That cannot be emphasized enough. One read through of this incredible book and you, like me, will be waiting with bated breath for her next tome to be published. She deserves your support, and highest respect. Do yourself a favor, and give this book a chance. You won't regret it.

This book is a must read. From the moment I started the story I felt a connection with the characters. The author does a wonderful job at making you feel part of their terrible experience. It is so true to life. Many of our young are getting hooked on prescription drugs because of injury or surgery that leads them down a path of self destruction.
The story takes you on a journey that no parent ever wants to face. It is almost unimaginable that these things go on right out side our borders.
It left me wanting more. I'm really hoping for a sequel!

The web of silence can be deafening when no one wants to speak up or help. When a young girl is constantly disappearing and goes on many drunken binges or uses drugs to escape the world, deal with life and just needs it to exist, no one wants to stop up when it appears she just might be missing but this time for real. Amanda calls her parents Diane and Steve to come and rescue her but when they do she decides to run away just one more time. But, this time would be her last, as the end result would create more than just a nightmare for her parents frantically hoping to search and find her but for Amanda too. Going to the police, asking for their help and trying to learn more was futile. A missing persons report and car that was missing did not cause the police to take action. Claiming they could not do anything related to Mexico or even send someone there to help find Amanda Steve and Diane had to hope for the help of Former Seal Mike and hopefully some good friends. As Steve calls his sister Pam for help little does he know that his brother -in-law has called in some heavy hitters to try and help find Amanda? Even a phone call that alerts him to the fact the she is in Mexico does not light any fires in the police department, Kidnapped by the Cartel is based on the true story of the author's nieces abduction by international drug smugglers. Author Karen D. Scioscia presents a firsthand account of what this young American woman named Amanda endured and hopefully this will deter other young people from falling into the same trap, using drugs as a means of escape and hopefully not running to the backstreets of Tijuana to party and meet the same fate.

Amanda Tate is missing and little is being done to help Steven and Diane. However, enlisting the help of the police and calling hospitals seemed future. With the aid of his business partner Geraldo, Steven explained the call on Amanda's cell phone from a man with a thick Spanish accent. When recalling her phone the response received was bone chilling as the man that answered claimed Amanda belonged to him. Mexico is definitely not somewhere any young person should go and Tijuana is more than just a den filled with sex traffic, drug lords and organized crime. But Geraldo would not give up and he called in someone else and hopefully all the pieces will come together as his sister will be there for support. Added in Benny her husband hopes to hire an investigator but not until you hear the voice of Amanda before she was taken, the reasons she left, her excuses for taking drugs do you truly understand the depth to which some young people go to defy their parents, party, seek refuse in drugs, escape school and rebel. But, just how did she wind up in Mexico? But, when Diane finally becomes a team player and suggests that they create posters and pin them up in San Diego near the border and in Tijuana does Steven feel that they are finally going to possibly get someone to help or that saw her taken.

Amanda actions are described in vivid detail as she decides to join some young guys in Mexico allowing them to get her high, but what happens next will not only frighten her but maybe the end result will be that she might learn a lesson that she will never forget. When stating that they will take care of her little did she know what these two men meant? But, it gets worse way before it will get better. As Steven puts out the word, Amanda allows someone to take her car, drives away with her car, she is embedded with so many drugs she can hardly function and the end result when she awakens just might enlighten her to the harsh realities of what she is about to endure and what she has basically gotten herself into. With the U.S. State Department warning against non-essential travel along the border of the U.S. and Mexico why would anyone chance it? Why go to violent cities like Ciudad, Juarez and especially Tijuana if you know it is dangerous? Why do these young people get sucked in?

The author explains the hierarchy of the drug cartels and introduces the reader to Carlos a violent and cold hearted and vicious man who will stop at nothing to control his men, his illegal immigrants or pollos as he refers to them and instill fear in everyone he encounters. Cross him and you wind up dead or worse. Family does not matter, loyalty to his own only if you deserve it and the end result you could pay with more than just your life. Added in we learn about a man named Ice who fears him, does what he wants and another who finds out what happens when he follows his own rules. As we learn more about where Steve, Diane and Mike are going to try and locate Amanda we are enlightened to corruption within the police department in Mexico, those that are paid by the drug cartel to look the other way and the terrifying realization that Amanda might not make it home. With aid of a private investigator, posters, money to hopefully get some answers from the locals Steven and Diane Tate need more than just a miracle as the investigator describes the odds and some of the tragic end results. Then, we hear Amanda's voice, hear her inner most thoughts and visualize and experience the degradation she under goes at the hands of two men who drug her and make sure that she's so out of it she never realizes until it's too late what is happening to her. But, the worst has yet to come and why they kidnapped her remains to be revealed as Amanda thinks it has something to do with a family friend's mother. This is one powerful novel with an ending that will make you wonder just how far two people will go to find their daughter, hopefully bring her home and pray she learns from her mistakes. Take the trip to Tijuana and see the poverty, smell the stench in the streets and enter the Pharmacia's and learn just how easy it is to get any thing you want in drugs legal, illegal or prescription for the right price.

Hear her screams when they sexually assault her. Listen to her pleads going on deaf ears and understand the fear that she faced every minute. A journey that you would not call a trip caused by drugs but one self inflicted when going in a car with strange men, strung out and wanting to just get high. Had she remained home with her parents maybe then this would not have happened? But, the excitement and rush of it all took over and Amanda never gave it a second thought that someone would want her out of the way, use her for their own purposes and possibly enter her in the world of human sex trafficking or slave trade.
As you get to learn what happened to Amanda you realize the gravity of the situation, the helplessness she feels, her submission to those that force her to do things against her will and the effects of drugs on her mind, body and thoughts. Placed in a locked room, filthy and alone she struggles to find meaning in what happened to her and hope for survival. Two people with this cartel might be her salvation but are they?

There are many voices that are heard within this powerful book as we also hear from Diane's two brothers who seem to know more about Amanda than they are willing to admit. Added in Dave seems to be self absorbed with his own drug habit, alcohol and he along with his brother Craig enlighten readers about their horrific childhood, their sister's serious problems and together they blame their parents for their plight. But, no one seems to be dwelling on the real issue and that is Amanda nor do they realize she has just been enlisted as the Mexicans call a "Mule," to drive a van and carry drugs across the border. If she does not comply the threats seems real not only with her but her family too. With their frustration levels running in overdrive, the oppressive heat and the lack of cooperation and run around from the local police, Steven and Diane are more than just at each other's throats along with the added help of his sister Pam.

As Amanda makes a silent promise to herself to get clean she hears the voices of those in the cartel telling her what to do and the threats run clear through in her mind. How does she fair and will she succeed in doing what they want or will she somehow be able to send a message to the border guards? Learning what happens and realizing just how corrupt the Mexican government is makes you wonder why anyone would want to go there for any reason. Drug cartels rule, kill, maim and destroy anyone in their path and the end result is usually tragic. When going to find their car they learn it's gone and no one will help or give them any answers. The sad truth is finding Amanda will take something short of a miracle. But, sometimes help comes from the strangest places and one man named Bulldog just might help pull it all together but first the group of five need to find out if he can be trusted. Where does he know Amanda from and just where does he think she might be?

With faith, hope and the possibility of someone on the inside helping them Steve, Mike and Alberto hoped to rescue Amanda. Just what happens and the dramatic ending you will have to read for yourself. Feel the tension, hear the guns, understand the fear and the final outcome will bring tears to your eyes and hope that if found Amanda will get some help. Author and aunt Karen D. Scioscia brings to light what happens when pain pills are given, a young girl gets hooked and somehow people turn a blind eye and do not see what is right in front of them. I am self-teaching myself how to airbrush. Already an artist I am finding this book to be very helpful. This book has very thorough, clear step by step description of just about all aspects of airbrushing accompanied by illustrations. There are specific exercises to develop skill. This is a great purchase if you want to teach yourself airbrushing.

This book starts out as many arts & crafts instruction books do - with pictures and descriptions of tools and supplies, followed by basic airbrush operation and maintenance. This occupies the first 60 pages and is well done, though the author goes a little overboard in describing requirements for production studios and large shops. I doubt that anyone interested in building out such a facility would be starting out with a basics book like this. The level of information presented is perfect for introducing someone to the airbrush for hobby and small-scale art use, however.

The remainder of the book, pages 60-155, is divided into chapters on common project types: airbrushing on textiles, body art, cars, etc. (See the table of contents in the "Look Inside" for a complete list.) Each chapter uses one or more projects to illustrate the techniques involved, but this is not a project book per se. The projects are being used to show the development of the airbrushed image for the sake of showing the steps involved - and they do differ markedly by project type. I never got the impression that project steps from one project to the next were redundant - quite the opposite, in fact - I gained a real appreciation for the differences.

Steps are numbered and described in detail, and each step is accompanied by a close-up photo. The descriptions are typically not just descriptive, but contain advice, warnings on common problems, and corrective measures.

The Ultimate Airbrush Book may not make you an artist, but will give you a very solid foundation to start with the airbrush.

Stan Hieronymus is the editor of "The Real Beer Page" at www.realbeer.com, the largest source of information about beer on the Internet. Hieronymus and Daria Labinsky are travel editors for "All About Beer Magazine", the leading beer consumer magazine in the United States, and authors of" All About Beer Magazine's Beer Travelers Guide." Not a cookbook

If you are serious about beer and interested in the development of the Belgian style so you can create your own version, then this is a truly useful book for you the adventurous home-brewer. I started out with the clone recipe books (of which there are many out there) and initially bought this book to quickly increase my ability to clone a Belgian style beer that had enjoyed on a whim. Once I started reading however, my eyes were opened. The book does cover quite a bit of history but in doing so debunks a lot of myths about abbey beers and some of the notions about 1000 year old recipes. This is really more a book about brewing philosophy written with the small batch home-brewer in mind. There are very helpful and encouraging tips scattered throughout the book and any brewer with this new knowledge (and perhaps Brewsmith software-my personal favorite) you can continue the "tradition" of abbey beers even though you may not be affiliated with a monastery or even Belgium for that matter. Home-brewing is all about finding your style and using the experience of those that have come before to create something that you really want to drink.

A must for every Trappist beer enthusiast

Of all the books in my library, this book is by far the best and is hands-down the most detailed text on Trappist ales. Even if you are not a homebrewer, anyone who is even slightly interested in Trappist ales and the monastic way of life will not be disappointed. I have read this book cover to cover many times and I am always finding helpful and interesting info that propels my love for Trappist ales even further. Stan Hieronymous takes the reader inside the walls of the abbeys where these beers are made and not only presents the history and beers of each abbey but even manages to list a few ingredients for each beer. Because the monks and lay workers who work in the breweries are quite secretive regarding their recipes and ingredients, one can only imagine the effort that was put in by the author when writing this book.

Above anything else, the author reminds the reader that each of these places is an abbey with a brewery and not the other way around. Despite the fact that the beers are truly amazing, Stan Hieronymous does not let the reader forget the reason for the existence of these beers (to add extra income to the abbey and serve as a form of manual labor according to the Rule of Saint Benedict). The author does a wonderful job of outlining the monastic way of life and mentality, and how this life of silence and harmony manages to produce some of the finest beers in the world time and time again.

In addition to the famous Trappist Ales, Stan Hieronymous also provides extensive information on other commercial examples that are produced both in Belgium and the United States. While the main focus of this book is about the Trappist ales produced in the six specific Cistercian monestaries, the reader can also find detailed information about Abbey ales as well as beers brewed in the United States that follow the Belgian tradition and style.

Homebrewers will not be disappointed. With plenty of mash schedules and temperatures as well as listed ingredients, fermentation times and temperatures and yeast strains, this book is a highly valuable asset for any homebrewer who wants to try (underline the TRY about five times considering the amazing quality of these beers) to make a beer similar to these Belgian styles at home.

Entertaining, informative, funny.

I read this while on a Belgian beer brewing kick throughout this summer. Picked it up based on some very good reviews but went in with low expectations; I read a lot, and find brewing books are often campy and tough to stick with.

Brew Like a Monk was anything but campy. It's a well written tour of all of the important trappist/abbey style breweries in Belgium plus (hands-down) my list of best here in the US as well. Allagash, The Alchemist, Russian River and Avery just to name a few. The author touches on technical details, but does-so smoothly and without being dry. His stories and quotes are well placed and often inspiring.

Also, this book boldly squashes a few American beer brewing myths around bottle refermentation and using sugar adjuncts in brewing. My last few brews have included both and they've been fantastic.

Loved it.

From simple pages to complex ones, he has always used the Bootstrap framework. Silvio is also the creator of the bootstrap-select plugin (http://silviomoreto.github.io/bootstrap-select/), which is a very popular plugin among the community. It is for replacing a selected element by a Bootstrap button drop-down element. Silvio foresaw that a plugin like this one was missing in the original framework, and it could be useful for the community. So he created the plugin, and the community helps him maintain it. Tracie L. Nobles, CPA, received her bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting from Texas A&M University. She has served as Department Chair of the Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, and Marketing/Management Department at Aims Community College, Greeley, CO, and is currently an Associate Professor of Accounting at Austin Community College, Austin, TX. Professor Nobles has public accounting experience with Deloitte Tax LLP and Sample & Bailey, CPAs. She is a recipient of Aims Community College Excellence in Teaching Award. Professor Nobles is a member of the Teachers of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges, the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Texas Community College Teachers Association. She is currently serving as secretary/webmaster of Teachers of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges, as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Pre-certification Education Executive Committee, as co-chair for the Conference on Teaching and Learning Accounting and as Two-Year College Section chair for the American Accounting Association. Professor Nobles has spoken on such topics as creating online web videos, motivating nonbusiness majors to learn accounting, and incorporating small business topics in college accounting at numerous conferences, including the Teachers of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges and the American Accounting Association. This states, "Access Card Package" - it most certainly is NOT!!! After purchasing book for class, I find out there is NO access to the web site....now have to pay additional access - not happy about this. False advertising....

Saved Money Buying from Amazon - New Book with a Good Access Code

The ISBN matches what I needed and it's cheaper than buying from my school.

There's ink clumped together on the pages that resemble words and pictures; so if it looks like a book and smells like a book, it's probably a book. Just make sure it's the right book – double check your ISBN numbers.

If a book has an "Access Code", I'm buying new, I don't want to risk not having a good "Access Code".

Watch Out for the Code Expiring! (Easy Fix)

This book comes with the online code for My Accounting Lab which worked great 1st semester but when I tried to register for My Accounting Lab 2nd semester they told me they needed a new code ($70!!). THIS IS A QUICK FIX THOUGH. I called Pearson Tech Support (1 (888) 433-8435) and explained that I was in a course last semester and after providing the name of my professor last semester, my new professors name, and the course ID for my new class, they gave me a new code that worked. It only took 20 minutes! Don't re-buy the code!!

Electrical circuit theory

I now have both books by Prof. Shenkman, the earlier one being on steady state analysis. The books are by far the best books around on the subject avoiding the usual lazy approach by most academic authors who give minimal theory and then refer the (unfortunate) student to the CD at the back of the book. However, the books stop short of taking theory to reality. For example, when considering transients, why not take some switching cases and show how the theory applies to them rather than taking some simple circuit to analyze? A glaring item missing from the transients book is a better treatment of oscillatory circuits including the use of damping curves. But on the whole, well done!
